WHS Basketball 14-10 @ Break

With action to resume for the Crusader basketball squads in less than a week, let’s take a look at the 2019 results of their respective 2019-2020 schedules.

VARSITY GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Varsity Lady Crusaders are 3-2 on the young season, with victories over Mulvane, Rose Hill and Pratt. The 2 losses came against Chaparral in the season opener at home by just 1 point, the other vs Hutchinson Trinity in the 3rd place game at the 25th annual Cheney HS Cardinal Classic December 14th. Team numbers are down (the squads are young), so only operating with Varsity and JV teams this season. Nevertheless, a very scrappy group of young ladies that are fun to watch on the courts. Aggressive, talented, and play tall.

Sophomore Ali Zeka leads in scoring after 5 games, 59 total pts. Freshman Shianna (Shiney) Hughes is not far behind with 41 and Junior Myriland French 28. Two other Freshmen, Ashlyn Gerten and Kami Reichenberger are right behind. Zeka was also selected to the All Tourney Team @ the aforementioned Cheney HS Cardinal Classic.

JR. VARSITY GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Jr. Varsity Lady Crusaders are gettin’ it done so far – nothing beats a 5-0 start – they have outscored their 5 opponents (Mulvane, Rose Hill, Pratt, Hutch Trinity & Chaparral) 236-113. Top Scorers for the JV gals are Maddie Nance 44, Natalie Henning 32, Mykiland French & Kami Reichenberger 28 and Emma Stover 26.

VARSITY BOYS BASKETBALL
The Varsity Crusaders are 2-3 on their young season, jumping out early with victories over Chaparral and Pratt. Subsequent losses would come in the Championship Game @ the Cheney HS Cardinal Classic vs the host on December 14th, and also @ Rose Hill and here vs Mulvane, just before Christmas break. Junior Tanner Meyer has been the leading boys and overall WHS scorer thus far, scoring in double digits, 4 of the 5 games played thus far, for a total of 89 pts.
