The Crusader Kingdom Has A New Duke!

For almost 3/4’s of a century, WHS has crowned a NEW DUKE! That tradition continued Friday evening when this year’s candidates entered the court arena and awaited to see who would reign for the next year. This year’s candidates were Kade Adams, Colin Green, Rayce Koerner, Tanner Meyer, and Berkeley Wright, all selected by their senior female classmates just a few short weeks ago!

With health guidelines in place due to COVID-19, the candidates had no escorts, but the coronation went on without a hitch and the NEW DUKE was crowned! Congratulations to Rayce Koerner, certainly the people’s choice as a roar erupted when the announcement was made!

Earlier in the day on Friday, the traditional DUKE PEP ASSEMBLY was held, not quite the same as in the past, as the crowd was limited while the cheerleaders, crimson dancers, winter guard and band pepped up the atmosphere for the DUKE CANDIDATES as they made their first public appearance together.

There wouldn’t be a homecoming dance but there’ll certainly still be many fond memories of the event, an event that did take place despite COVID-19, an event that will continue on as most traditions do. Congratulations to all the candidates, special congratulations to Rayce Koerner – a friend to all. GO BIG RED!
