Summer Drivers Education – a WELLINGTON Tradition!

Everyone remembers who their drivers education instructor was in high school. It’s been discussed on social media at points in the past – the names you hear, definitely a trip down the “Crusader Road of Fond Memories” for many. My instructor in the early 70’s was Lefty Van Pelt. I remember it well – having a driver’s license for a teen is like a bird finally getting use of its wings. Big step in life for teens and birds!

Session 1 of Summer Driver’s Education wraps up this Friday. Session 2 begins on Monday the 21st and goes through July 9th. 100 students approx. have enrolled for the sessions this summer.

The program requires both classwork and roadwork. The gentlemen involved and have been involved for several decades are Mike Wilmoth, Jamie Ybarra, and Rick Phelps. You can ask about any WHS graduate who their driving instructor was in high school and they’ll remember! Here are some recent pics of Driver’s Ed students, hitting the books, and trying to not hit the cones. 🙂
