Structure Fire Claims Life of Resident

Wellington Fire/EMS were dispatched to a reported structure fire with possibly somebody trapped inside at 1:25 AM Tuesday, September 22, 2020.

Upon arrival they found no visible fire conditions from the street. When crews entered the structure at 217 West 17th, they the fire had burned itself out after causing considerable fire damage to the living room.

A female occupant was found deceased in the living room. Smoke and gases were removed from the house using fire department ventilation fans.

The fire loss was reported to be $50,000 to structure and contents with the fire cause smoking in the presence of medical oxygen.

Owner/occupant of the home is Bernadine Crittenden. Additional agencies assisting were Wellington Police, Kansas Gas, and Wellington Electric.
