Explosion, Smoke and Sirens Sunday Afternoon Near 17th & Washington

An explosion, with enough concussion to get your attention if you lived nearby, occurred Sunday afternoon around 2:00PM in or near the alley between Washington & “C” St, just north of 17th. Police and fire units responded to the scene as black smoke boiled upward with some ferocity. Once engaged, the WFD distinguished the fire without apparent incident.

No official word on the cause or circumstance, one bystander indicated he was told someone was working on a vehicle near that area when the explosion and subsequent fire occurred. No ambulances were observed at the scene, no injuries apparently resulted, which is good!

Watch for updated information here as it’s received.
