Crusader Cross Country Heads to Chanute Saturday for 4A Regional!

The WHS Boys Cross Country team will be in action on Saturday in Chanute, at 1 of the 4, 4A Regionals taking place this weekend. The other sites include, Baldwin HS, Buhler HS, and El Dorado HS as hosts.

Running for the Crusaders will be Camden Parkey, Hunter Lough, Caleb Sanders, Chilson Ybarra, Zach Kristek, and Ryan Bacon. 1st year head coach Jaedyn Ledesma-Showman is expecting all of the boys to run their personal bests. In conversation with Coach Showman, she felt the group had had a great season thus far and have set personal bests at nearly every meet this fall. The Regional site in Chanute is a flat and quick course, and some of the Crusaders ran there 2 yrs ago at an earlier Regional. Coach Showman also said, “I could go on and on about how proud I am of these boys- they have set personal bests by a range of 5 minutes to 2 minutes, a tremendous accomplishment for the boys who didn’t do much running over the summer.”

This is Coach Showman’s first year as head coach, filling some really big shoes. Coach Charles Wallace, after many decades, gave up that position this year and is an assistant with the program now.

Coach Showman had this to say about her first year at the Cross Country helm…

“As a first year head coach, I have learned a lot from Coach Wallace. He puts a lot of time in to get meets ready and to make sure that I have everything I need to be successful. I am so grateful for awesome assistants, Coach Wallace and Coach Green. The kids have worked so hard and I am so proud of what they did in a single season. Braeden Ybarra is out for this season- and he has been a great asset in cheering the team on and being a good leader and support system for our team. I am excited that we will have him back next year, and 4 boys back.. The future’s looking good for these young men and the coaches are so proud to have had the opportunity to be a part of this chapter of their lives!”

Thank you Coach Showman and good luck in Chanute Crusaders!!
