5 Years & 75 lbs. later, the Spotlight is on WHS Senior Kanden Young

Some great stuff is happening at WHS on the 2019-2020 wrestling squad. After 29 matches thus far this season, Senior Kanden Young is 29-0 @ 195 lbs, a most phenomenal accomplishment. The season isn’t over and many challenges lie ahead, big challenges, but the Wellington Senior is methodically confident and is focused on the next 3+ weeks. It all began for the young student-athlete 5 years ago, when as a 120 lb. 7th grader, Kanden took to the mats for the first time as a KNIGHT, with mixed results. His determination and sticktoitiveness, has improved his fortunes significantly over time and now the final stretch, the vision quest.

Kanden Young & Kenny Fehrman
SR. KANDEN YOUNG (29-0) JR. KENNY FEHRMAN (27-2)

One of the “4” 4A Regionals for boys will be held here in Wellington on Fri-Sat Feb. 21st and Feb. 22nd – a great opportunity for WELLINGTON to head out to WHS over those 2 days and cheer Kanden and his teammates on as they try to qualify for the State 4A Tourney @ Salina the following weekend. Junior Kenny Fehrman (220 lbs) is having an exceptional season as well, presently at 27-2. Several others, including some young ladies, are excelling on the mats for their school and their community. Exciting times for these young student-athletes, who, like Kanden, have been working towards this end for a long time. Kanden was 120 lbs when he hit the mats for the first time as a 7th grader and did so with mixed results. Now, 5 years later and 75 lbs heavier, Kanden has his eyes on one thing for sure – his 3rd trip to Salina for State 4A action and an opportunity, his last opportunity, to bring  home some hardware from a sport he truly loves – a “vision quest” if you will. We wish him and the others, the best! ”
