The first ever Kansas Babe Ruth “Classic” was Played at Light Capital Field in McPherson on August 14, 1999. The East team was
managed by Daryl Spear of Columbus who had Ron Maring, Osawatomie and Doug Spear, Columbus as coaches. Players who participated for the East team were Travis Tow and Nick Brown,
Independence; Trey Thompson, Altamont; Derek Holmes, Columbus; James Boman, Pittsburg; Jesse Rea and Adam Rhodes, Parsons; Todd Lee, Riverton; Nick Porter,
Chetopa; Joe Wuertz and Garrett Peterson, Osawatomie; Seth Simpson and Derrick Banwart, Fort Scott; Grant Newcombe, Spring Hill; Michael Totman, Osage City; Derrick Birk,
Gridley; Kyle Fetters and Josh Guilfoyle, Ottawa.
The West team was managed by Bob Willis, Wellington and coached by Larry Gerwick, Mulvane and Paul Unrau, Moundridge. Team
members were Cody Rouse, Bucklin; Donnie Gollihar, Walsh, CO; William Wyle and Jesse Escalera, Elkhart; Jarrod King, Lakin; Kory Lira, Ulysses; Brian VonFeldt

Two nine-inning games were played with the West winning the first game 11-6 and the East winning the second game 11-10. The
stands were filled for an exciting and entertaining double-header. A big thanks to the City of McPherson and Frank Panzer
and all of his staff members for their hospitality and hosting a class event that was enjoyed by all.
