Winter Sports Practices Now Underway

Winter Sports practices are now underway at WMS & WHS

The latter began up last week, the Crusader and Lady Crusader Basketball squads and the Crusader Wrestlers began just this past Monday along with all the other HS’s across the State.

Regular season action gets underway right after Thanksgiving break at WMS and then the following week (1st week of Dec.) for the HS teams. You’ll notice one big difference for the WHS Basketball squads – the season will not begin in Kingman as it has since the invention of the wheel but will instead kick off with the Cheney Invitational with a slightly different twist. The 3 day tournament (like the Kingman Tournament) will only take place at host Cheney on the 3rd day.

On Tuesday, Dec. 5th, WHS will road trip to Hutchinson to go up against Hutch Trinity.

On Thursday, Dec. 7th, WHS will host overall tourney host Cheney at WHS.

Then on Saturday, Dec. 9th, WHS will take on Chaparral at Cheney HS, the 3rd and last day of the opening season tourney.

League action will kick in shortly thereafter when Andale visits WHS on Tuesday, Dec. 12th…the 2017 part of the schedule will wrap-up on Friday, Dec. 15th @ Rose Hill. Action picks back up on Tuesday, Jan. 2nd, here at HOME vs Mulvane but a couple of days before the students return to classes from their holiday break.

WHS Wrestling season opens on Saturday Dec. 2nd with a few different twists as well. For the past few years anyway, the Varsity have traveled to El Dorado and the JV to Winfield. The latter will still take place in Winfield but this year, the Varsity opener will be at Caney Valley.

The WHS Invitational slated for the following Saturday, Dec. 9th has been altered as well. In the past the JV squads have competed in the auxiliary gym while varsity action went on in the main gym. This year on the 9th, it will just be the Varsity and the JV wrestlers will have their tournament instead on Saturday, Jan. 20th.
