Crusaders Lose 5th straight and fall to 0-3 for 2016 season...

The last time the IRONDUKES put a win up on the board it was at Rose Hill, district play game #1 last season and Wellington won that one 44-20. History would not repeat itself for a road win in Rocket Country this go-round. After a nearly scoreless game Friday night, Rose Hill would prevail 7-6 over a Wellington team that continues to get snake-bit by unnecessary penalties at inopportune times. This would be Rose Hill's first win since the 2014 season.

After trailing the entire game 7-0 (a first qtr score and PAT by the Rockets), the Crusaders would finally find paydirt in the 4th qtr on a 49 yd TD reception by Sophomore DeAndre Washington from Junior QB Cade Phelps but would fail on the PAT attempt. On the evening, Phelps would throw for 134 yds, the Crusaders would rush for another 145 yds to bring their combined offensive totals for the game to 279 yds.

That 4th qtr score put some life in the Crusaders a bit but down the stretch, the "W" wasn't meant to be...time ran out and the Rockets and their fans rejoiced.

Colton Glover rushed the ball 19 times for 87 yds, Chris Kop13 carries for 50 yds, Cade Phelps 7/3 yds., Deyton Araujo 1/0 yds and De Andre Washington 1/5 yds. Cade Phelps passed 8/25 for 134 yds - DeAndre Washington caught 4 for 79 yds, one a 49 yd TD reception in the 4th qtr. Joe Ybarra snagged 1 for 23 yds and Jack Walton 2/22 yds. Colton Glover added 10 yds receiving to bring his total offensive production to just shy of 100 yds on the evening. Trayson Probst punted the ball 6 times for 183 yds. (31 yd. avg)

It doesn't get any easier for the Boys In RED any time soon. Next Friday, Andale will be visiting Sellers Park after a 61-52 victory over Mulvane this week.

The following week will be another road trip, this one to Collegiate before returning home again vs Scott City on Homecoming night, Oct. 7th. Those "3" teams combined for 158 points and 3 victories this week.

Wellington's 0-3 start is the slowest start for the IRONDUKES since 2012, (Coach Tyler Ryan's first season) when the Crusaders went 0-4 (losing to Goddard, Concordia, Augusta and Collegiate) before winning on the road at Coach Ryan's alma mater Circle Week 5.

Senior Linebacker Lukas Soria remains out with a broken fibula from game #1. Senior Connor Burnett suffered some sort of neck issue during the game Friday night but returned to play shortly thereafter. Much of the secondary consists of Sophomores who are gaining valuable playing time and experience.

Rose Hill's Freshmen/Sophomore team will be in action here Monday at Sellers Park beginning at 5PM!
