Wellington Police Department Warns Public About New Scam
Tracy Heath Chief of Police reports

Wellington Police would like to alert citizens to a reported utility company scam. WPD has recently learned

that several residents and businesses have been contacted by an unknown company representing the City of

Wellington Utility Department. This company notifies residents that they are behind on their utility

payments and if payment is not received, their utilities will be disconnected. This company will then

direct residents to purchase "green dot" cards, provide an (800) telephone number and request the green dot

card information be provided.

The Wellington Police Dept. has confirmed with the City of Wellington Utility Department this is NOT a

practice utilized bt the City. Should you receive a call of this nature DO NOT provide any personal or

credit card information. Should you have questions regarding your City of Wellington utility service,

contact the City of Wellington business office or by phone at 620-326-2821.
